Alisia Hankins is a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) and an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) with a passion for neonatal medicine and breastfeeding. With over a decade of clinical experience in neonatal care, Alisia is dedicated to providing high-quality, compassionate care to vulnerable newborns and their families.
Alisia began her higher education journey at Tougaloo College, where she received a Bachelor of Science in Biology degree. While at Tougaloo, Alisia decided on a career in nursing. She then attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where she completed both her Bachelor’s and Master’s in Nursing. During her Master’s programs, Alisia worked at some of the top NICUs in the country as a bedside nurse to gain more education and experience with this vulnerable population. After completing her Masters and becoming a board certified Neonatal Nurse Practitioner, she worked at high level Neonatal intensive care units where she gained vast experience in caring for the sickest newborns. Alisia then went on to complete her Doctor of Nursing Practice at University of Mississippi Medical Center.
In her practice, Alisia combines her clinical expertise with a compassionate approach to foster a nurturing environment where families feel supported and understood. She is passionate about promoting maternal and newborn health and is dedicated to positively impacting the lives of the infants and families she serves. Alisia also prioritizes educating nurses and parents about best practices in neonatal care. She has participated in numerous education projects for nurses, quality improvement projects in the NICU and community outreach initiatives. In addition to her clinical work, Alisia is the program coordinator for the state of Mississippi’s only Neonatal Nurse Practitioner programs. She is a member of several professional neonatal organizations which help her stay abreast of the latest in neonatal medicine and helps her network with others in her field.
It was in her role as an NNP that Alisia developed a love and passion for breastfeeding. Alisia set a goal of becoming an IBCLC so that she could empower mothers to breastfeed through education and support. She believes that informed and confident parents are essential to the health and well-being of their children. Alisia works closely with families to address their unique challenges, offering personalized strategies to promote successful breastfeeding.
When she's not working, Alisia enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, and advocating for maternal and child health initiatives in her community. Her commitment to nurturing and nourishing both mothers and newborns defines her practice and her mission as a healthcare provider.
